All I notice is blood. Theres nothing really bad about that. Plus, I don't think adults like vampires, this should be aiming for more of a 13/10+

I think it is purely because it has a vampire theme, but I agree, the game should have a lower rating. On the android market, it doesn't say a age, it says "High Maturity". This could mean 13-17+. I don't think there is anything that would make it 17+, apart from the theme.

I really don't see the point here. I know for a fact that there are people under 17 playing this and nothing is done, so have at it.

I disagree with the first part. Adults I know don't like vampires one bit and its probably partially because of twilight.
As for the age thing, you can't stop younger peoples from downloading the game and playing. It's beyond anyone's control so the age thing is pointless IMO.

Unrestricted chat, revealing outfits, strong language, blood gore, mild sugestive themes, and because they want it to be. Btw its 18+ if you go to the home page the scrolling image of dark legends has a small caption at the bottom right corner which says so.

So I guess my question is how will this age restriction be enforced

RedRyder
04-15-2012, 11:26 AM
Why would you bring this up again? Each market has their own restrictions. If you know you're underage but still playing, why complain at all? Just let it go. Jeeze..

KillaSkillz
04-15-2012, 11:59 AM
It's meant to stop the completely honest children that will see it and not play. Because some children know they should not play a horror genre game, as most parents know their children should not.
But mostly is is meant to be a disclaimer. This way if there are complaints from angry parents, it can be said "hey, we have a age limit and it is clearly posted". There is not a whole lot STS can do to enforce the restriction, but it is meant to cover them more than anything else. And my guess is if a parent complains, the account will be closed by STS with a "thank you for bringing this issue to our attention" letter.

Some people are offended by blood, gore, stars in circles, monsters, women's bodies and so on. I agree that there are some things that very young children should not be exposed to though.

Funny thing is that they say its 17+, but the "cool" vampire theme will probably have a greater wow factor for the younger folks

Noobified
04-15-2012, 01:46 PM
If they want to enforce the age restriction, they should have some sort of age verification system or require a credit card to play. In the end, I don't think STS cares who plays as long as they put the maturity rating and relieve themselves of any liability that would result from under-aged kids playing.

How many of you all have seen the movie "MegaMind"? If you have you should be able to remember when he says "It's all about presentation!" That is literally it. They don't care if people under age over age or whatever, they put it up there because it looks good. So to speak. There are certain things in video games which different markets require higher age restrictions on. In order to appease these people they gotta put 17/18+

How is it enforced? It's not. It's there because it looks good there. It satisfies the parents, it satisfies the app store. (or market or what have you)

STS does not establish age limits. They have to enforce them, but they do not establish them. Age limits are established by the ESRB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entertainment_Software_Rating_Board).

So discussing it here is utterly pointless... I mean... if you think you'll change anything by arguing about it.

The age limit is there to cover sts. It is then down to the parents to enforce this if they choose too(lime most games tbh) Pretty simple really..

I won't bother going over the places where the content necessitates 17+ rating, others have covered that very well. I do want to say though that I liked vampires, far better vampires than "Sparkle-light" noobs, long ago. I'm 43, my wife is 40 and we've both enjoyed stories such as Brom Stokers Dracula (with Gary Oldman, Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder - 'I have crossed...oceans of time to find you.'), "Interview With The Vampire" (first story in series about the vampire Lestat), the Laurell K. Hamilton books, etc. Kids may think they invented vampires but they haven't even scratched...bit?...the surface...vein.

All mmos should be rated 17+ they are all filled with homophobic, racist, and sexist hate speech. It's a inherent part of every mmo.

Making an mmo suitable for children is like making porn suitable for children. It won't happen.

Saying that most older people don't like vampires is utter Crap.

The game is 17+ because of the gore and language and the ability for online players to say whatever they want, the forums on the other hand are bs, suck and are full of censorship because there only 13+ but such is life, full of pixies and fairies.

Yeah, they probably have to police the adult talk on the forums for the same reason they do in PL and SL. Federal law. It's a bummer.

...and bars are just places for social gathering. You can't have a population of adults and kids together, it will inherently be adult oriented. Yeah, you can have a teenager in a bar at midnight and that teen won't drink. You allow teen agers into every night, and they'll be underage drinking.

I played enough mmos to understand that they are certainly not environments for children, and parents have no idea of the type of filth that goes on within these virtual worlds.

Yes, all mmo should be 17+

I'm not disagreeing, I'm saying realistically, it won't happen. With the crap that goes on at some highschools, they should be 17+ too. Drinking. Drugs. Sex. All there.

Public schools should be cleaned up as well...however, that is another subject, with another set of considerations...mainly that public education is funded by public money.

Never-the-less, you are comparing a public school to a private server. A private server like any other private business can certainly be regulated, just like a private school, just like a movie, or an album, or renting a car, or alcohol...the list goes on and on.

I definitely think there are some issues and liabilities that come along with mixing an adult and a minor population together. Bottom line, is the interaction in MMO's are always adult oriented. Find me one server that is not riddled with sex talk and hate speech.

I'm not necessarily saying that minors don't talk about sex and aren't racist...I'm not saying adults don't talk about those things either. However, there are boundary and issues with being appropriate when the populations are mixed.
