Neither team must actually have three players each in order to start the match. There just has to have been three players in the team at one point in order for the match to start. Case-in-point, Baked and I were able to start a match a few minutes ago that was a 1 v 1. There had been other players on each of our teams that dropped out previously, which enabled us to start even though we shouldn't have been able to do so.
