Which one is better, the one that you can download from the STS website or the Google play version. Or are they both the same thing?

As stated it's very same file.
Apk file is on site because I have heard some people unable to download from play store. Also some rooted devices with custom ROM won't either have play store or unable to use it.

Yes, you can play on Kindle Fire. Download the .apk, install and start sucking some blood!
