We've added a few new forum avatar icons for Dark Legends. Check them out:

If you want to change up your forum avatar, go to Settings (on a web browser the settings button is in the upper right)

Go to Edit Avatar, choose Dark Legends from the drop down, select your avatar and click save.

It says something about custom avatars on the avatar settings page but i cant figure out how to put in my own custom avatar. How do you do that?

The forum users that have custom avatar options is a known random bug that occurs from time to time.

Unfortunately this isn't an option on these forums, and is removed as soon as it's seen by an Mod/Dev.
