Maybe they're not talking about your dodge...
Basic meaning of 'dodgy' is 'not to be trusted'
'A dodgy motor' - a car that is stolen or not in good working order, so don't buy it.
'A dodgy sandwich' - one you had better not eat because it's dirty, or too old, or might upset you for some reason.
'A pub full of dodgy people' - one full of people that are probably best avoided because criminal or violent.
'A dodgy mage' - a mage that is probably best avoided because criminal or violent?
