View Full Version : Buying Plat with iTunes costs more than price?

So apparently I drag myself to Walmart and get one of those $50 iTunes cards.
Great, I have exactly $50.12 on my iTunes account.
I attempt to buy the 800 Plat pack ingame, and it says I have insufficient funds remaining, even though I already have this "$49.99" that was required.
I'm assuming there is some sort of stupid extra fee that iTunes requires for you to pay that isn't said by the Plat purchase page in game. Because all I see is "$49.99" and all I know is I have $50.12 which is enough.

So here I am stuck.
I probably won't be getting more Plat for some time now, so I can't really get more to pay for this extra iTunes tax.
And the whole reason of me getting the $50 was simply so I could get the 800 Value Pack, instead of 2 $20s and a $10 pack.

Is it possible STS can do something about this?
Otherwise, I guess I'll go get some TV show seasons and albums.
Umm, thanks.

Im sure if you ticket sts they will have an alternate payment method, for example one of my other games "Warring states" had similar problems so they gave me an account to pay into and then rewarded said items purchased.

Meh I wonder if this counts as a legitimate support ticket.

They can't simply take money out of your iTunes account though. Honestly, the only thing you can do as a player is to purchase another iTunes card.

Yeah that is what I plan to do now.
Although it's now a bit past midnight and I'm not dragging myself to Walmart again.

I had same problem with last two $50 gift cards I have used. I cannot purchase 800 plat even though the cards have no holds or service charges.

Well did you just buy more iTunes?
I mean sorta sucks getting charged a few dollars extra.
Could get a few apps with that money.

I pay through iTunes with a credit card...no hidden charges, it's always been the exact amount in my bank statement, tax portion is blanked so it must be inclusive in the purchase amounts :P Would have incurred interests if there were hidden charges that I wasn't able to pay since I only paid the $89.99 or $49.99, no more no less...I just checked now, no outstanding interests for me :P means I really did only pay the exact amounts indicated in-game :P Must be a technical issue? I've never tried using iTunes card, hope that helped...-_-

it's not a technical issue... it's Apple

Your total price will include the price of the product plus any applicable sales tax; such sales tax is based on the bill-to address and the sales tax rate in effect at the time you download the product. We will charge tax only in states where digital goods are taxable.

I was told I had insufficient funds for the $50 package when I had $50 in itunes money. Someone told me it was tax so I bought a 10 dollar card. Problem solved. If it isn't tax, it's some other hidden fee.

Well Florida must not have taxable mechanical goods cause I've never had this problem

You should just get another $50 card and get the 2k plat instead!

If you live in Texas, or your bill to address for your iTunes account is in Texas, it could be that the Texas sales tax is the reason you are getting the error message.

Ok so I'm in TN and when I buy the $9.99 one it costs $10.96 I think.
So I did some research and iTunes puts a sales tax/ fee in there.

Sales tax is 7% if I'm not mistaken.

It is sales tax based on your state/laws.

I live in Maryland. I only use iTunes cards when purchasing anything on my iPad. I just bought the 2000 plat pack and what it said it cost is what it took from my account balance.

I wish everyone had sales tax like New Hampshire does.

This happened to me a while ago, but with a smaller amount. It was when I first started playing pl.
What they had me do was, well, I'll just make an example with your situation lol:

I have $50 of iTunes credit, but the sales tax wouldn't let me go through with the 800 plat purchase. Contact support, tell them your situation, buy as much plat with the 50 that the added tax will allow, and they'll credit your account with the remainder to 800 plat.

Like I said, my situation wasn't with that much plat. I'd purchased a $25 card and I couldn't buy the amount of plat I could get with the amount, so I bought what I could and I was credited with the rest.

Do they do that universally anymore?
I sent a ticket about this problem and what I got was a reply from Mjostlin saying items will have tax which doesn't quite help.
I don't think he got what I was asking.

I've bought a ($19.99-> 165 Plat) and used it all.
By "getting the most Plat" you can, you mean I should buy another $19.99 and then try for a $9.99, or a $4.99 and then those 10 Plat ones?

I don't want to risk getting the short end of the stick.
