Is there any visual difference between the plat purchased gold dragon set and the dropped version from fang?
I really like the look of the gold dragon set better than the other colors, but it seems rather pointless to spend so much gold on a set that looks exactly the same as the plat purchased ones you see all over the place. Is there any visual difference at all?

Hmm I'm pretty sure the plat one doesn't give set bonuses I think.. I may be wrong

No set bonus on platinum set.

yes, I realize you don't get the set bonus for the plat one. But as the set bonus is pretty small, I don't know that it would exactly be noticeable to others. It would be nice if the developers added some kind of smoke/effect that was different from the plat purchased set.
When they released the dragon sets, they hyped up the gold one as if it was the best one. And it should be the best one, but because of the plat one, it has become the least desired of the dragon sets.

The visual is when u wear it with mitas it sparkles thats it.other then that its the same..and most the the time if someone has dropped set they will have mitas also or it would be pointless.i wish i had plat to buy mitas cause i would def get gold set
Gold sparkles are the visual difference, which I might add, are pretty sexy sparkles.
They go well with sets that give off smoke, such as the new sets and L61-65 sets.
Energizer, the gold dragon set is the cheapest not because many people have the plat bought version, but because Mitas can take thousands of platinum to obtain. IMO, I like it that way, it keeps the dragon set cheaper for me to buy. ^_^
On top of that, look at it this way...everybody is buying the platinum bought Mitas set because they want the real thing. You know that saying, "Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery"? I think that could be best used here.

If I were you, I'd buy the dragon pack, see if you get a mitas and if you do, then get gold dragon set. You don't want to get the gold dragon set, and spend 1500 plat only to find you've got 3 sets of the other dragons and still no mitas ;(

That sounds like a good plan. Before I do anything I have to save up some gold!!
Anyone know what the odds are of getting Mitas? The plat store seems to make it sound like it's a 50% chance. But from the sound of things, it seems like it's actually much lower.

1/4-1/6 but Physiologic tried 8 times, I believe, maybe more.
Keep in mind, the gold dragon set isn't cheap either by any means. It can cost you over the gold cap as well.

Buy a single dragon pack. If you get mitas, get the gold. Otherwise get red or green (better for tanks since you don't need the 1 M/S).
Even though gold is the "hardest" to complete due to Mitas, its got the worst stats. I would take 1 damage over 1 H/S or 1 M/S, but thats just me. 1 crit is about the same though...

Yes, but in PvP, that 1HS over comes that 2 damage, trust me. It has all the stats of all the sets at the cost of -2 damage, which is definitely worthwhile.

AC-TU-A-LLY, it could be the other way.
People with a gold cap have the dropped Helm and Armor and might wear it to imitate the Plat one.
Although what are the chances someone with a gold cap doesn't have 15 Plat or something?

For me, any set is worthwhile, ch-ching ($$$) :P I have gold helm virtually the same with the plat version...I can't count how many times I showed it to other people just to prove it's the real deal :P But I'm not in it for the stats or the looks ($$$), so yeah...

This is probably not a question with a definitive answer, but if I was to get the gold armor, what are my chances of finding someone who will sell the gold helm?
And how much should I expect to pay for the helm, is it more or less expensive than the armor, or about the same?
