Can we get the option to disable this from ourselves and others. the option to hide it even though we’re wearing it?

Just remove the effects for your own visuals or just remove the entire visuals of your own that even other players can't see?
Also the other one that removes other's set effects is +1 similar to disabling Aura's visuals, examples are Badges and Titles.
