Some of our players have friends lists in the thousands (highest is 5000+). Hindsight is 20/20, and we should have had a friend limit initially, but we didn't, and I need to deal with this issue soon. I'd like to set a limit on friend list size and am thinking of 500-1000 players max. Once we settle on the limit, you can continue to have the number of friends you have now, but you will not be able to add any new friends until your friend list count is less than the maximum size. Not sure if any other penalties should occur, but we'd probably need some tools to prune the lists in some manner.

Thoughts?

This is probably too complicated because of things like marriage system, but maybe have be a way of condensing characters from the same account into 1 friend slot? Also, auto unfriending those that haven't been active after a long period of time.

I currently have 1k+ friends, adding a limit would be a bad thing imo, alot of people friend request me and I am sure if I don't accept any they will harass me.
One thing to possibly add is hearted friends can not be removed after any amount of days offline. People offline for 40+ days get automatically removed that are not hearted. I'd say this would fix a ton.
Add an option to choose the amount of days someone must be offline for in order to be removed from FL. Minimum 20 Maximum 50.

For me a smaller list is fine. After the player ‘last online time stamp’was introduced, I used it to delete players offline for more than 90 days. I kept one dear friend on, they quit, after a year the system removed him. An auto delete after xx days seems reasonable and should also apply to guilds.

Other games I play limited the friends list to >50. Here I would think 100.

auto kick after approx 60 days inactive seem fair and max friends between 500-750 would be good imo

Also people in fav would not be kick even if inactive for long time

Why would system enforce removing people from your own friendlist after some time of inactivity? Why would you add people to friend list knowing you can remove them cause of the inactivity factor anyway in a first place?
Put the capacity on friend list sure but the "penalty" system is unnecessary, manage it on your own.

although i find having 2k friends useful i also think cap of 100 is ok.

500 friends is fine.
On the other hand, each one should manages their lists, as in the guild too.
Otherwise, if they put an automatic elimination system, assuming that a player stops playing, when he returns, he would return with 0 friends because he would be automatically eliminated from any list.
Quite silly and disconcerting in my opinion, to come back after 20 days and not meet anyone.

On the other hand, a filter would be more useful:
-Friends by alphabet;
-Friends by offline time;
-Friends by class

Yes i still have friends in list offline + 300days and still checkin if they ll come back. Some have return actually after years and it's nice they have a chanse to reach old friends so auto remove from friend list seems a bad idea to me.

Players have their own choice who they wanna add and how many friends they want to have on their list. I just wanna add in here maybe if you can add a filter where we can see our sorcerer, rogue, and warrior friends separately with a total count somewhere that allows us to know how many of our friends plays a specific class. Can also add a name searcher in list to easily check on a particular friend especially if you have a lot in list rather than scrolling down.

Auto removing friends is a really bad idea and there should be friend list limit to 1k people

limit 1k and can add a feature that removes players if inactive 365 days

I don't see any issues with why we can't have as many friends as we want, and what's the reason for automating the removal of friends after some time?

This "limit" would arise more problems. In the event of reaching the limit, it'll be ridiculous that we would have to delete our "least favorite" friends to make room, everyone would just have a dilemma, not to mention the dramas that would unfold if certain friends talk about why aren't they part of someone's friendslist anymore.

The system already boots them after 365 days. I know because I kept one name that long, hoping for their return.
Then poof the name and it’s alts were gone.

Can we please have a search option in the friend list specially for players having 400+ friends. Scrolling all the way down to "X" or "Y" to search a name is not efficient.

I think players that get banned should be an auto remove. I am ok with inactive players getting removed, I remove in active players after 90 days. It don’t take much to find friends in game if they still play.

Auto kick after a year should be optional because many take break from game and come later back
