I wouldn't even call that rap music, more like mainstream radio rap.

My favorites:
Big L
The Roots(illadelph halflife)
Nas(illmatic)
Gang starr
Wu-tang
GZA(Beneath the surface, Liquid Swords)
Immortal technique
Jay-Z(Reasonable Doubt)

I could go on all day, check em out for some real hip hop.

I got my first taste in rap through:

1. Beastie Boys (will always be my favorite)
2. Young MC (first rap album I bought with my own money... lol)
3. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (Nightmare on My Street.. nuff said!)
4a. Dr. Dre/Snoop (If I have to say anything, then I'll say "The Chronic") :)
4b. 2Pac (Amazing!)
5a. Digital Underground (The Humpty Dance WAS that epic!)
5b. MC Hammer ("Too Legit" was a must on the bus heading to basketball games.)

During my high school days, my favs were extended too:

6. Bone: Thugs In Harmony (First of Tha Month was a kickstarter for my cross country runs)
7. Warren G (who DOESN'T know the words to Regulators?!?!?!)
8. Anyone who was on "The Show" soundtrack (DMX, Redman/Methodman, Onyx... wow!)
9. House of Pain (One word... Jump!)
10. Coolio (of you never listened to Fantastic Voyage: hmmmmm)

As the years went on:

11. The Roots (a buddy of mine kn the Air Force introduced me to them. Straight dope.)
12. Ja Rule (Hate that he fell off.)
13. Jay-Z (First song I heard of his was "Can I Get A...". Next day went out and got all his albums.)
14. Ludacris (Word of Mouf was one of the greatest Rap albums ever.)

My Honorable Mention:

Ton Loc, Vanilla Ice, Mystical, Wreks-n-Effect, Eminem (he's good just not my fav)

I am sure there are others, but these are the most frequently played on my playlist. :D

Mmm. Vanilla Ice is like Kenny G. Everyone knows of him and a lot of people have an album BUT no one ever bought said album or openly admits to ever listening to it (ie: I dunno how it got on my iPod, must be a glitch with Apple!), edit your post man! :P

Best current rapper = Yolandi Visser. ;)

If this is directed at me, I listed him because "Ice Ice Baby" was/still is the bomb! Sixth grade field day was a constant play-rewind tape (yes kids, tape)-play-repeat.

No shame in admitting I'm a fan of Mr. Van Winkle. ;)

I don't really have a favorite artist, mostly because i listen to almost all rap..
So a couple good songs I like are:
Artist | Song

Future- Turn on the Lights

Cash Out- Cashin' Out

Wiz Khalifa/Snoop Dogg- 630 (other known as "Delvin and Mac Go Back to School")

but yeah.. other than the 3rd one, Cash Out + Future are not commonly known, and are pretty new in the rapping business. But they are still pretty good :)

Snoop lost it when he tried pop with pussy cat dolls.. even though his verse is clean on that song..

He came back though in boss's life album when Dre produced his beats.

OK his albums made what gangster rap is today after nwa. His albums doggystlye, dogfather, the game is to be sold not to be told (no limit produced) ,the last meal, bosses life... those are the only albums I liked .. the others are stored away 1 time use. I still have the those tracks on any mp3 CD or mp3 player to this day. Also he was the main one rapping in "nothing but a g thang" Dre just did the beat.. I will say this if Dre didn't produce the beats not considering that one album in no limit, they were garbage albums ..

Master p was just a money man his rap skills sucked.. his brother silk the shocker had skills.. but he is gone for life in prison for murder.. no limit records was about bringing New Orleans talent out. Then came cash money with with juvenile with back that a** up also bringing out lil Wayne. Birdman and manne fresh were partners but smoked out birdman rather give up all his talent just for lil Wayne. Which in a investment wise was good but for rap/hip hop sucked cause 99% of the time lil wayne does a mix tape u can't understand nothing but what he screams loud...

Even though i am a massive Drake fan i don't like Nicki Minaj this may be offensive so sorry but only reason why she is successful is because shes a female rapper which there isn't many of . She has a good voice when she sings but she cant rap.
I like Lil wayne but hes too inconsistent a couple of his songs i like and he does good in the drake songs but his own individual songs are bad full of auto tune and effects.
