Can you add a graphics card if they have an embedded one? Last time I checked, intel graphic cards were embedded with the processor, making it impossible to upgrade it to a better graphics card.

Apollo is correct. You can only upgrade graphics if your graphics card is a separate card. Open up your computer and look, but it sounds like it's attached to your motherboard.

Simple English:

Your graphics card cannot be upgraded, you'll have to buy a new computer.

Find the specs for your computer, find the graphics card your computer uses, do a google search for the latest graphics card driver for that graphics card, download it, run it and then you should be done.

wait, i thought you could disable onboard graphics when you buy upgraded cards in the future?

I am sure i have done this in the past. Dont know if it's possible with all board set ups, but it may still be.

You're talking to a 13 year old kid, gotta keep things simple for him. Onboard, yes, but not integrated, it's built into the chipset (Unless you mean integrated when you say onboard)

Sorry, yes, you should be able to disable the graphics chip installed in your computer when you install an actual third party graphics card:

It might be as simple as going to Device manager and choosing your display adapter.

Oh, I see, then it may be best for you to advise him as to how to do it & a compatible card to buy. :)

Parth, way to completely screw up a kid. It's hard to find a computer without integrated graphics now, they don't make the old type. Smart companies will include software that lets you use integrated for browsing/web videos and then dedicated for gaming.

@OP, what are the other specs for your computer? Before choosing one, you'd want to make sure something else isn't bottlenecking it. If you have a terrible processor, and get an amazing gfx card, it'll run slower than the same processor with a graphics card of similar power.

do windows key + R, type dxdiag, hit enter. tell us what it says after processor and memory.

edit: considering that you're on a laptop, do you have the model number? that would be a lot easier. on some of the cheaper laptops you can't upgrade regardless just because there isn't room in the case for it.

Is it the normal 7600 or the gt? Hard to troubleshoot it without being able to mess around with it in person.
