I'm not sure what others would feel about this, but personally I like the idea.
Given that no dungeons are randomized (yet), it would be quite nice to have the maps saved to each character.
Thoughts?

I use the empty areas to mark were monsters still are. Either have it be different color for unreached places or leave the same.

Ah I agree, a separate colour for recently explored areas would be essential, I don't know about everyone else, but I think a uniform minimap colour would be much better than what we currently have. I would have them all blue (like Forest Haven minimaps), with the exception of Lost Expedition and Alien Oasis outdoor maps, which I would probably have as black or another dark colour, but the same colour for both.
Unexplored map areas could then either simply be more translucent (probably the best option), or a contrasting colour; but again - uniform across the game.
