Show 10m on one char, meet them in town on an alt at the spawn point so you can't get to stash, show them more. You only need about 30-50m to convince someone you have, say, 400m. No one is gonna question you after showing them 2-4 caps.

Nah, at the start, I didn't spend a single platinum and made about 1mil by merchanting and farming. Now I SOMETIMES use luck enhancer when it doesn't even give me pinks, and I made a lot more now. WITHOUT a single platinum. :).
