View Full Version : suggestion: make levels purchaseable with plat.

I suggest making levels purchaseable by plat. Not many people enjoy grinding, most want to get to end game level (in the case 75) and farm gear or pvp. I think I remember reading in a thread where you can get from level 71-76 by doing magic castle runs in 5 hours for around 600 plat. We have around 40k xp coming from levels 70-75 and 100k for 76. Just to make the math easy, let's say 33% of the above plat expenditures went towards levels 70-75 and 66% went towards 76 (that would be 200 plat for levels 70-75 and 400 plat for 76). I say we make each level from 70-75 purchaseable for 40 plat and the "elite" level available for 400 plat.

The people who don't have plat can still do what they're doing and those who just want to level can save the time and STS still makes money. A side benefit is I'd be able to do runs with my friends right away instead of seeing everyone in magic castle.

I know I joke around a lot but this is a serious suggestion. Honestly, why even have the pretense anymore that a lot of people buy their levels anyway. I'm not raging, in fact later on in the week I'm giving in and doing magic castle runs myself once I get more plat. I'm not really looking forward to it because I can see where it's going to be tedious. It would just save me the time and tediousness of all the micro transactions and repetitiveness. I'd much rather be able to pay 200 plat, get to level 75 and get to farming my sets or get back to pvp.

Edit: another thing- So far I've grinded out level 70, 71 and into 72 without thrashers in blacksmoke. Even if I decide to keep grinding it out like this what will be ahead of me once I get to level 75? More grinding! Because all the pinks I'm getting are level 71 or 73 until I get to 75. The level 71 and 73 pinks are weaker than my humania crafted set so they're useless, I won't be using them anyway. Why do I have to grind twice?

No, i think u should still have to earn your pinks but I don't see why we couldn't just buy the levels. It would save all the magic castle rmks.

Why not just have everything with plat,
When you start the game it's should have the option
$500 boost- start at level 76 with 10k pve kills, a gold cap, an endgame set of your choice, as well as all achievements unlocked

For $250 more you can do it with a second char

Thoughts?

That would make the game no fun, it would almost garuntee 100% pvp

well, they've actually already had the $500 boost to end game. It went out with an email prior to humania cap. In an effort to get retired players to come back, anyone who had spent $500 or more could get one character boosted to level 66. I don't really see a big difference in offering in once and making in permanent. I wouldn't offer it at the beginning though, make them play through swamps and learn how to play their class first. Maybe offer it around level 35 or so.

Riccits, what is the difference in paying for levels than what we're seeing go on now? It just saves people time running through magic castle and the hassle of doing all the microtransactions (repurchasing xp anywhere, etc.).

It won't be as if everyone would be doing it. The people who are already spending money on plat would just spend it in one go and those who don't buy plat would grind the normal way. Yes, there may be the few non-plat converts that would instant cap, but dang if the price tag isn't a deterrent. A downside would be kill count, but a lot of people have a high kill count from farming or waiting for new expansions anyway rather than from leveling. I don't see anything wrong with it then.

If all you want to do is PvP, then it would make the game quite fun indeed.

How is that anything at all like my suggestion? 2010, 2011 WF pinks, or any pinks for that matter, were earned. Making them available for plat would devalue them and wouldn't be fair to those who grinded and earned them.

Doing 5 hours worth of rmks in a level 50 or 60 levels below you isn't earning anything, it is buying something. Once again, I'm not raging, I'm going to do it myself and I believe 95% of the people who have done it will agree they are buying levels and not earning them. I'm just suggesting taking the time factor out and make it a one time transaction instead.

The difference is that right now people have to spend their money AND time. Your idea requires only money. Costing someone their time at least makes them have to think about whether the time is worth it to them or they'd rather spend it elsewhere. Lose that and you've lost the last pretense of it being any kind of game at all. Your idea isn't silly, it's just a natural extension of what's going on now, but I think it's a bridge too far even for the cash-hungry coffers of STS.

Personally, I think they should install a warp zone in Balefort where players can go down a green pipe and pop out at Blacksmoke as L76 (with full fireball power of course).

The free 65 was for people who had spent 500 on stuff already
This would be when you first make your acc like when you make a premium character, this could be called an elite character
Also for 250 more it will cap you again when the next cap comes

I think this thread kinda shows what elixirs do but the idea is wack. they need a different solution.

1 billion plat offer in the store to auto cap instantly as soon as the latest map comes out with 100x end game pinks of each class, vanities thrown in. (If you're worried it may cost too much $$$, think of the savings on night time snacks and energy drinks)

I agree , to me the ideal solution would be eliminating plat elixirs and go back to selling maps, vanities etc. but we all know that's not going to happen.

And as far as it being wack, well, a year ago I would have agreed with u but as of right now I don't see it being much different than what went on this last weekend. The next logical step is just eliminating the pretense and going through the motion that people (hopefully myself included) aren't just buying levels.

The only real down side I would see would be further separating those who have and those who have not. I think those who don't level with plat are looked down upon as second class players. I may be getting soft in my old age but I've gained a big admiration for the players who just play this game for fun. There's a whole lot of people out there running black smoke in mt fang gear. I've even seen several using blizzard sticks and non pink gear. When these guys wipe at the boss, they don't rage quit, they respawn and run all the way back to the boss. They are kind and encouraging to each other and even get excited when they get purple drops. During mt fang I would save all the non set pinks and pass out to players who need them but I didn't play humania enough to get any extra pinks (plus the prices skyrocketed because all pinks made a set) so I can't do that in black smoke. These people don't play to collect pinks, pad their kill count, collect all vanities, they just play for fun...you know, I may have just talked myself into leveling the old fashioned way. Lol.

As someone who buys a fair amount of plat and has certainly benefited from that, I totally disagree with the OP on this. If anything, I think there is too much plat in game. Someone in another thread said they bought 77k plat in one year? What!?!? I've been playing since February and I've purchased about 6k plat, and still have a nice amount of that leftover (I purchased most of it during the plat sale). I didn't start purchasing plat until June, and I have to say that the game seemed slightly more fun when I was a noob and didn't use any plat. Back then I was very excited when I would drop a rare pink. Now I only get excited if it is something epic and worth millions. Back then I was extremely excited when after 2 months of saving gold I managed to purchase a Fortified Gemstone Set without having ever spent any plat up to that point. Now I buy and sell 3-4 of those fortified sets per week, along with another dozen or so sets that I always have in inventory. But this is probably the main reason I started merching. Because it presents a real challenge that nobody can buy with plat. I can make millions of gold each week without spending any plat. Anyone can drop a few thousand plat and spend the week farming with shamus elixirs, get a bunch of pinks, and then sell them. But try making a few million gold in a week without spending any plat -- not so easy. And now you want people to just be able to buy an end game character without even working for it. Very sad indeed... I guess I dread the day when this is no longer actually considered a game but a contest instead. How about we just enjoy playing the game a little bit, because it's actually a game and we play games to have fun.
