As I have been suffering from an internal dilemma concerning low lvl players constantly requesting help, and with many different schools of thought on the subject, I thought it best to take a diplomatic approach to relieve my conscience and boredom in one fell swoop.
The Responsibility to Protect, or R2P, is currently the first topic of discussion for the United Nations Security Council, a main body of the General Assembly. While there is a consensus that final pillar of any R2P process shall be military intervention(in our case joining a group), but should be considered a complete last resort and be used as a deterrent for cases of war crimes, genocide, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity(possible getting repeatedly pwned by Vlod?).
A universal argument against R2P is the fear of infringement upon State(player) Sovereignty. If consistently coddled how will a state be able to maintain independence, and how can this be implemented without damaging relationships.
I know this topic has been beaten to death, but I tho it it would be fun to steer the discussion towards a UN Resolution-esque format with preambular and operative clauses to reach an agreement. In the spirit of diplomacy I hope we can collect as much feedback as possible to build a respectable draft resolution, which in turn we could vote to adopt as a community. But before we can jump into the writing process, I will need to gain support from some signatories(people wishing to participate in this), or the resolution will die on the table as many have done before.
I hope some people are interested in playing along. I think this has potential to be really fun and open up some doors in the future!
