Inability to increase pet happines with "play"

As mentioned above, the smiley face that indicates that "play" is ready just won't appear no matter how long I wait.

Have tried the basics: Restarting the game, my phone, but it doesn't fix the problem. The issues occur with other of my characters as well.

It seems that the timer for my daily rewards isn't working as well. Is it some timer issue?
