Darkball has a nightmare proc, it weakens armor. A fireball has a fire proc, which inflicts more damage over time.

ah so both are good or is one superior over the other?

Many prefer the dark bolt due to the nightmare proc, dark bolt is more common, and has more versions and different rarities. I would go with dark bolt, since the only fire wands I've seen are, well, firewands, and fire staffs are mainly for lower levels. I prefer nightmare, but it's your call. Test em!

Ice wands also freeze. In PvP, go with the dark stuff (though freeze can also be great against non-mages). In PvE, ice and fire can be very nice, especially if you are with a group that already has a dark weapon. I haven't tested this extensively, but I don't think a weapon's nightmare proc stacks with the enchantress skill, so that's another reason to look to other weapons. One thing I have never tested is if lightning wands (and staffs) have a lightning proc. It makes sense that they would. Hmmm, maybe I'll dig out the old red wand...

Do the djinn wands (Thoth and Isis) have procs? For both levels 43 and 45?

Yes, Djinn wands are dark wands, so they have the usual debuff (Mojo=Dark as well).

If we use a darkbolt blaster, should we upgrade the skill Nightmare?

The skill nightmare shouldn't effect the staffs strength of the proc. If you're asking if nightmare is needed even after the proc, I would say yes, the proc does it's affect more so over time, rather than the click of the button.

This is actually something I want to test. I'm fairly sure no lightning procs stack with the lightning skill for example, but I have a feeling nightmare procs stack with the nightmare skill. However, I really haven't checked. If not, it adds a new dimension to mage gear choice. It's weird, I was just thinking about this today ;)

I wonder if the darkbolt proc might be weakness and not nightmare, since it combos to terror with bear scream just like the weakness spell.

Dark bolt blasters are usually a little bit weaker then fire because of them debuffing I.e nightmare eg zyla of doom if u notice when she attacks you your have a nightmare symbol next to ur name
