How cool would it be for items to have serial numbers? You can see who the items were originally farmed/crafted by. You could also track where your items have been and which characters they have been on.

This is a great idea! It would be really cool to see how your item traveled. They have this with money so you can see where your dollar bill came from and I love the idea of applying it to items.
