I am going to make a L17 Bear. Any tips and pointers on a boss build?
Easiest build.. 6 Iron Blood 6 Rage 3 Stomp 1 Sms.

i suggest using top quality popular wood instead of the usual redwood for whatever build you decide on
it holds up much better
Ask Improving, I hear he's pretty L33T.
In all seriousness though, host level 12 games to avoid OP birds. Use 6 rage 6 ib and 4 stomp with a pumpkin chunker and kite haaaard. Against mages just use forg bow and run towards them, use stomp to break the ice. Dont get within slashing range or even auto range against forg bears, just kite with the chunker. This works better if you have someone to bait them out from behind trees and around corners, so if you have a nice friend, thats where he/she comes in. GL, rush people for talking trash and maybe you can improve the crappy community that we all know it is. Now that Im gone, anything is possible.

Um my build i used 2 use works good 6 rage 4 stomp,4 sms, 1 ven , 1 ib
Tips: stomp early then sms after really quick then after there stunned go up to them and use ven, (idk full name)then yea

Well sure, it's all easy in comparison to other things. Comparing low level PvP to something like any PvE though, that's where it looks hard. Oh and opening doors. Compare it to that and low level is extremely difficult.
