Do I have to get the 2600 exp at lvl 16?

Ok so I got 16 awhile back, and heard the news of the exclusive items they will be giving out for lvl 16s, and was jsut wondering, Do I have to get the 2600 exp at lvl 16 to get these items? Thansk for any replies.

I'm guessing the 2600 xp shown is how much will be needed to go from 16 to 17 when the patch hits.
