View Full Version : A saddening, possibly a threatening, story that just happened (not in PL)

So I was asking my mom if I could go to a gym to workout with the machines.

I described it to her about how useful those machines are, specially since I can be known to be.....fat. ANYWAY! So after I described it to her, she said OK.

Then after a while she told me how dirty the handles can be and how many sick people go there. Then she pointed out the fact that I can get sick easily, which is true.

Then after a while I yelled, "FORGET IT!!!!!!!"

Her complaining is what I needed most at that moment, specially since I just came from school.

Any of you had this happen?

No, not at all, ever.

Edit: well not for a long time I have a wife to tell me not to do things now :)

Dunno, I work out at home. All you need is pushups, dumbells, pull up bar and dips to get pretty fit. Also running a lot :)

anyways, if you're overweight, have a good diet and run more than lift weights.

Also, any decent gym now a days have cleaner and wipes. Use em on a machine before and after your sets and youll be fine. But of course none of this is the point. The point is you had a long day. So just chillax, play some PL and have a good time. But most of all, apologize to your mother if you yelled. Trust me on this, it will be great practice for marriage lol.

Drink water, and don't eat crap, fruits and vegetables. Working out is barely half of it. If you run stairs, do sit ups, and lift weights like I do you'll be cool. No need to machines.

I did football last year, and I could get a 7 minute mile after the season. Sports really do help if your determined enough.

Gyms are clean these days, alot of guidelines we have to follow as far as keeping place clean. (I'm a fitness consult.) Losing weight is just being slightly more active and eating a little better, it's not as hard as people make it to be. It's common sense when it comes to diet.

Dont fall myths like spot-reduction - "doing sit ups will give you make you lose weight off your stomach! Triceps extensions get rid of bingo wings!" It's all crap! Cardio and a diet will give you a 6 pack and lean look!

Good advice and for that little extra effort after a while you will see results and you start to feel good about yourself and what you can achieve.

Seriously. The best way to get fit is run/swim/bike. I swim 2 hours a day, and run a 4:45 mile time. If ur hesitant on what to do to get fit, endurance building is ALWAYS the way to go (for me at least)

I hear some noob boasting. Best way to get fit is spoiler alert: (highlight to read) The best way to get fit or in shape is, find a sport that you like and can do for a reasonable amount of time a day. I lift weights but just for toning, the real work is when I go skating for 4 hours =)
Do not worry tj, I respect your 4:45 mile. Oh and just to weight lift a bit, your moms been a germaphobe just be careful not hands in nose, eyes, mouth etc...

Well, to be honest, your mom is right about the germs and stuff that you can pick up from handles and whatnot. On trains and buses, I don't even touch those poles they have to grab (That's what she said.). More than once, I've seen someone holding the pole sneeze into their hand, and then put that same hand back onto the pole. It's quite revolting really.
