the square is a rendering artifact, and not one we see very often. Chances are you may have a corrupt file or something along those lines, and if it is really bothersome a reinstall might help the problem. Many devices are different so pinpointing on a particular device can be a bit difficult at times.
As for the level 19 getting into an elite, that's definitely a bug :)
