Instead of the character friend system create a account friend system
Example instead of adding the character as friend you add the account as friend so you dont have to add each of your friends characters

There are plans to eventually do this.

We thought about this, and the issue is you are adding all their alts, and you might not know all their alts. So a bunch of new people (some low level) show up on your friends list. So you go to remove them not knowing, and you end up removing them all if they are linked.
Then again, the Devs seem to have a plan around this.

have a account username, and you can see in friends list all users online, and which alt is on. clicking on the name shows all other alts.
