Must be. I never tried hitting that button. I thought it let your pet go. Like...for good.

Yes dismissing pet doesn't get rid of it for good, just temperarily. Then when u want it back u summon it back. But if for some reason u don't want to hit the dismiss button, u could always just walk into pvp and hop out again, as this will do the same and automatically dismiss pet (tho..... its really just simpler to dismiss lol)
