According to its description, Fox’s skill ‘Hypnotize’ at Rank 3 becomes an AoE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_of_effect) attack. However, it still affects only a single target.

This post is organised in three sections:

I. Reproduction steps –....zzzzz....
II. Proof - including a short video
III. Discussion - do you think Hypnotize should be AoE or not?

I. Reproduction steps

1. Increase Fox’s Hypnotize Skill to Rank 3.
2. Try ‘Hypnotizing’ a group of enemies.
3. You will notice that only a single enemy is affected by the skill.

II. Proof

Let’s look at the skill’s description for Ranks 2 and 3:

^ Rank 2

^ Rank 3

However, Hypnotize even after Rank 3 hits only one enemy at a time. In the following video, Hypnotize is at 6 and my fox's hit% is 132%. See what happens when I try to Hypnotize some low level enemies and then open some chests.

Note that, when a character uses an AoE skill, the health bars of affected enemies become visible (see effects of Fox Howl skill in video). This does not happen with Hypnotize.

^ Comparing Hypnotize and Fox Howl at Rank 6 (L.56, 170 dex / 114 int, Glyph Obedience helm + armor, Impulsively forgotten bow, no rings/faces).

So either the skill's description is wrong (thus the word 'area' should be replaced with 'range' from Rank 3 and on) or Hypnotize is bugged, depriving the Fox much of its damage potential.

III. Discussion

Do you think Hypnotize should be AoE or not?

If it were AoE, the Fox would become much deadlier with the idea being to first bring enemies close and then damage them. Also, since Hypnotize stuns too, the skill can provide some extra protection to the caster when surrounded by enemies.

On the other hand, it would require synchronisation with the bear: imagine the bear trying to group enemies properly and the fox pulling from behind (thus scattering). But then again, what good is a single target pull? I don’t think attacking one enemy at a time is efficient for a damage oriented class. One could argue that it would be useful for boss fights but bosses cannot be pulled after Sewers anyway.

Not sure what the original intention was

Great post. My guess is the "area" is merely a typo, likely a cut and paste error by whoever filled out this skill page.

I do agree that a single target pull has no use in PvE, although I would think it's a great thing for PvP. It would be far more useful in PvE as an AOE. It could be tricky to use, but I could see it being a great help when used correctly in a good party. It would definitely make the skill more useful and the gameplay more interesting.

Yes, it could be just a typo. And I agree that for PvP a single target pull (with stun) is definitely useful.

On the other hand, the skill's visual effect (circles centred at the caster) suggests AoE... But we will found out for sure when the devs deal with it :)

These thoughts actually occurred to me as I was trying to figure out if there is something missing from the Fox class (as others have stated in this forum). Right now, I do enjoy the fox but my feeling is that I clear trash mobs faster with the bird. Maybe this is because birds have been around since forever so we can rely on established efficient techniques. But it would be a shame if what prevents the fox from realising its full potential is just a small bug.
