It helps if we know your other skill choices as well.

Damage > crit at this point in the game

Mages critical itself is very low, and therefore useful for rogues, sorcerers need to deal as much dmg as possible.

I disagree crit is better than DMG. I have 5/5 crit and couple with Clyde, aspen or colton I can have my crit between 15-22% most of the time. This ensures crit procs enough to get more DMG than the 5% DMG. For example if you doll out six hits and deal 2k base DMG. The 5% dmg will add 100 DMG. If you crit with fireball, ice, light or even with oracle weapon you are looking at an extra 200+ DMG easy. Min dmg in this case would be around 100 which is best the 5% DMG added.

crits only do 125-130% base damage for weapons, about 140% for skills, and 250% if you have lightning upgrade.

crits will give you spikier dps
dam% gives a more consistant increase to your dps.

see my last post in this discussion thread (http://www.spacetimestudios.com/showthread.php?88373-DPS-vs-Damage-a-detailed-comparison)

my total crit is 26% i deal 1.3-1.5dmg on a rogue(ofc idk if his armor is top notch)
but i only crit on a warrior is 800-900+.
this is only for using lightning skill. 3/5

mages already have high dmg, highest can go is 229
but we dont have enough crit to max that out like other class so
better go on crit than dmg.
