View Full Version : Stopping the Hauntlet coin/boss leechers?

I've been doing lots of Hauntlet runs recently to get coins for a pet and get to lvl26 but have noticed some players go to the zone and just sit there, letting the other players do all the work, then they either join in for the boss kill or disappear right after all the players receive a Hauntlet coin.

The mere presence of extra players in a zone increases the strength of the enemies, making it harder for the rest of us.

Is there any way of stopping these lowlifes?

Haha, I completely understand your frustration. Unfortunately there's not much you can do. When I see 1 player isn't moving, I often just leave the game and rejoin another one. Sucks having to walk all the way back though :/

But yeah, it nerves me too when that happens.

With the current setup, no.

Unless STS adopt some of the players' suggestions or implement some new setups.

I just want to point out that sometimes when I zone into areas while playing on my phone, it takes awhile to load. So it may look like I'm doing nothing for 30-40 seconds but I'm actually just waiting to get off the loading screen.

I'd also like to point out that even with 3 players I clear hauntlet in less than 2 minutes. Typically 1:30ish. I can't see this as a big issue when its cleared so quickly.
However if 2-3 players are afking I could understand your frustration.

Cheers

I only enter the hauntlet after getting the black hearts quest and hauntlet quest. I always fight mobs, always start the timer and fight. After killing the boss, I would normally would not continue to the finish line until somebody does, then I leave.

When the black hearts is almost complete (say 15/20), thats the time I cross the finish line and destroy cannons.

Get that hauntlet Canon quest and don't finish it. Then you can go back easily from the quest menu

If you intend to do a lot of Hauntlet runs there's no need to do long walks to the Hauntlet entry, simply do these steps beforehand:

1. Start the Daiy Quest from Algernon to destroy the Hauntlet cannons, but don't destroy the cannons (yet).
2. Click the top left icon in the main screen to select that quest so it appears in the top left of the screen.
3. Now you only have to click the "Destroy Hauntlet cannons." whenever you want to go straight to the Hauntlet without having to walk to the entry point.
4. Destroy the cannons when you've had enough of doing runs.

I've started to note down the users who don't join in so I can spot them almost straight away and leave the zone.

Good advice, Ademos and Chaim Nail! Will remember that for future runs. :D

To take it a step further, if you take both quests and complete them but don't turn them in, you can also quickly transport out of the hauntlet as well being able to quickly transport in. To transport out quickly, just hit your quests menu and the completed cannon quest will transport you back to kraag where algernon is. It's a little quicker than going to menu, then map, then kraag, then ok. It's a two step process instead of a four step process. Then use Bert's quest to quickly transport back into the Haunlet. The transporting out trick doesn't save as much time as the transporting in one, but if you're going to be running Hauntlet for a while it'll save some minutes in the long run. You can jump from run to run within seconds.

As far as the leeching stuff, I haven't noticed it, but an easy fix would be to make it so that you don't get the hauntlet coin until you cross the finish line. The timer can still stop once the first person crosses, but each person has to cross to get their coin.

I don't watch people do the work, I join in. I do the first two rooms and port out for fast exp gain.

I always help and hate leeches too. I've seen people kill everything including the boss and then they exit. Those guys are doing it wrong lol!

Lol wrong wording? That's what they're suppose to do. Kill enemies, kill the boss, then port....isn't that the Hauntlet way?

Or maybe I misunderstood.

Well this also applies to elite runs :(

Don't forget. Some of us have wi Fi issues. I myself freeze in place for a while, unable move Or help my friends and other players. But it fixes itself after a minute.

I run it even when players are leeching. It takes less than 3 minutes to solo on my warrior. I've seen rogues solo it in under 90s. I agree it sucks to be stuck with lazy/bad players, but because its easy enough to finish quickly with or without help I don't see the point in being frustrated. Elites on the other hand are a different story.

Most people don't know this trick, type /partyi 000 in town, then go into hauntlet or any other area. You'll be completely alone and nobody can join. Basically you are making a fake party which prevents others from joining. Effect last until you log off or join another's party.

Technically, that's not true. You would have to invite someone to your party, then leave it. Even logging off doesn't work. There is some threshold that you have to be logged off for before it will kick you.

On that other hand, you can just type "/partyleave"

Notice the same situation whenever I farm for eggs (ie. Rooks nest, ribbit quests) where some players would run towards the boss leaving the mobs to be killed by other peeps. And they will kill boss to themselves.
