Earlier today, I was on pl and someone randomly invited one of my alts. I humored them and joined. But then the gm said if I wanted to be promoted I had to pay him!!! I laughed and left. But has this sort of thing become common now?
P.S. This guild will be left unnamed for privacy sake.

It depends on the currency, if it's gold well you fell for the scam or he might be honest, if it's plat or irl currencies then it's definitely breaking a rule or two

What's the point of paying the guild master if most likely you will be leaving?

True, I believe I've seen other games where leaders make you pay, but it has a system so you won't get scammed or something

He said after paying you get promoted to Officer, because he doesn't want people to destroy his guild. I restrained myself from paying the 2k and kicking everyone LOL

There were quite a few lol
Some see guild as a way to profit, some see it as a way to scam and some see it as a way to unite friends or a certain group of people.
It depends per player.
