How to join a guild

Hi I'm new to the game and wondered how to join a guild. I don't see any lists where I can send a request. Should I just wait to be asked or is there a way to pick the guild I want to join. Please let me know because there seems to be no thread about it and it's not clear in game what to do. Thanks.

someone invites you to their guild. you can ask for an invite

How do I ask to get an invitation if I don't know anybody and cany even see the list of guilds, let alone a description or the stats of the guilds!?
