I've never bought a platinum pet before. I have some platinum leftover on my account so I want to buy one of the pet to give to my 5 year old on his account. When you buy platinum pet do you get the egg or is it already attached to the buyer?

You'll get the pet, not the egg. So, it's not tradable.

Or you could buy the tradable egg in Auction with gold but you might fare better with buying plat for your little boy.
