Not an excuse. He was very active on forums before the tournament began and chose not to check the thread regularly. Also, he should have read the rules before signing up as this was always double elimination. It's like people saying they read ToS and get banned for breaking a well known rule.

If I make another tournament I'll make sure to put time limits on matches and put in the rules that you have to reply to the thread if you have a match vs someone else; in other words you have to be active participant and opponents should make a post on the thread to schedule a time to play their match.
