Lag is stopping me from returning to PVP!

Hey guys, it's Z.

I've gone from the pvp realm for a while now, but i'd like to get back in. The only problem, as the title states, is that I lag way too much. I encounter lag spikes every 3-5 seconds it seems; all the while I'm sure those who I've been attempting to pvp against aren't lagging in this same way. There's no way for me to enjoy pvp if this keeps up.

I need help with this. Is there some way I can get my 4th gen ipod up to par? My router is brand new, so it's not my wifi (also since all computers and my ps3 aren't lagging, I ruled out the wifi being faulty). Anything would help. I've already tried to restore the ipod, turn off bluetooth searches, and all other notifications, along with disabling camera effects and high quality. I do, however, need to run the "assistive touch" function since the home button is smashed in, Would that have anything to do with it?

Again, any help is appreciated.

PS: I wasn't lagging while in Mt.fang or Balefort Castle dungeons, but every other campaign and towne I lag immensely.... But I mainly care about the pvp lag, just thought it was odd.

I don't know why, but I've found with my wifi, it spikes every 3-5 seconds, and when I use my 3G it's near perfection, but on my other stuff my wifi works fine, and seems to be only pl, still could be your wifi..

I used to use my IPhone until I was perma banned :( and that worked fine in pvp... I then switched to my 4thgen touch and have been having the same exact problems as you described... Maybe it's just the touch?

Why should we get the best in top market phones if PL was designed to be played on wide variety of phones. I own a Lg Marquee (newest version) and it lags terribly, I even uninstalled many internet-occupying apps and still lags so bad, even on the strongest wifi.

It's designed to be played on a wide variety of phones and it does. However, WiFi technology is upgrading and as a result, older devices cannot compete. For a top tier product, your experience will be flawless. For a mid-tier, it'll be an okay experience. For a crappy product, it'll be a crappy experience. Essentially, you get what you pay for.

Thanks, Parth. I suspected it was an outdated ipod issue. My mom's ipad runs it beautifully, but sadly she's stingy when it comes to letting me play PL for 4 hours straight.... Anyways thanks for confirming that :)

Actually it is wifi first of all did you upgrade your wifi? I play with iPod 4, iPad mini,iphone 4 and pc my Internet connection is very good sometimes it goes down under 100 ping but it is all about my wifi I pay a lot for my wifi :) if you need me just pm me or add me

The truth is that there will always be excuses for bad ping, but the cause is most likely a user based problem, I guarantee it. I am able to play just fine, but if I switch to an iPhone 4 or any of my older devices, my ping suffers. You have to remember that technology moves fast, so if you want to keep playing mobile MMOs with the best connection, a top tier device helps A LOT, as does having an excellent dualband router.

If you are playing on 2G, it's highly likely that coverage in that area has grown worse or the network has taken too much of a load for demand of data, hence your higher ping on the same connection.

Oh dude, you missed it. Forg bow bear rushed me on my rhino. I lagged hard but was like "Meh... What the h-e-double hockey-stick..." And I input my standard combo while lagging. The spike stops, I got my first kill on that char XD. There was much laughter in my room today

My current device is a dual core 1.5Gz CPU, 1GB RAM, game like old classic Max Payne play find zero lag, which has been ported to android, same PC style.

As per bench mark test, I know my device can run 10 pl game at the same time, obviously excluding the net connection factor.

Oh, it's playable, definitely, just a question of what you consider playable. The ability to load the game & perform the functions of the game means that it is playable. However, the quality of the playability is something else entirely.

What is your ping and speed? I'm curious to know so I can help assist. Did you read my guide in Technical & Bugs section? It's stickied at the very top, so if you are experiencing any of the symptoms addressed, that may be the cause of your lag.

I sincerely hope you didn't think that meeting the minimum specifications to run the game meant that you'd be able to play it flawlessly. That is like upgrading a half-decade old computer to Windows 8 and expecting it to run the operating system the same as a higher-end spec'd device. It'll be able to run it fine, yes, but not as well as a higher-spec'd device.

Yes, that is an old classic game, so with those specs, your device should find no difficulty.

Older devices can run many instances of the game too, but the question is based on smoothness & other factors.

Yes, I do know what you're trying to say. I am also trying to say that mobile technology is a very fast moving market. In this market, within a year your device is outdated, but still able to keep it's head above water. However, within 2 years, it's on its last legs. Why? Advancements & 2 year contracts. Cell phone companies want you to upgrade, so as a result, advancements and tougher requirements are going to be pushing factors to "encourage you to upgrade".

My advice? Upgrade everything if you want flawless connection. I've played from India before too & it isn't that bad at all if you have the right equipment.

If you aren't aware, edge is an internet connection that was considered modern two generations ago. Honestly, that is like expecting your 56K dial-up internet to still be top-notch and keep up. It'll definitely be playable as it can load up the game, but the definition of playable is largely controversial. So, to somebody who is pampered with green ping a majority of the time, your EDGE data and device would be utter garbage, but to someone who has never played an MMO and realize what ping is, your EDGE data and device would be pretty darn good.

You don't believe me? Alright, lets take a real life example: cars. These days, in modern luxury cars, you are able to get 0-60 speeds achievable by the highest spec'd cars a decade ago. Now, those cars that were top in their class a decade ago can barely keep up with cars these days.

Example: A 2013 Lexus GS350 FAMILY sedan is able to get from 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. That is FAST & it's not even a powerful engine in there. An Acura NSX, a car considered one of the best in it's class a decade ago, can barely keep up with that these days. In short, you simply cannot expect top-notch performance out of old technology, otherwise upgrades would be pointless.

Yeah I try playing on my laptop now. Lag is virtually nonexistent, but the controls are quite awkward. At least I have potential doing it now, just gotta get used to the way it feels.

I'm just thinking its where you live... What plan your internet is on .. The time you play... How old your device is and little things on your device that can make you lag heaps.. Bugs that make you lag.
