View Full Version : [Guide] How to play AL in Chrome again :)

Greencrow

Past these days, AL or any other Legends Games are not opening well. Sometimes it stuck at a certain percent, mostly at 92% or just the chrome will crash. The cause is that of the new updated Google Chrome. In order to play, we're using the old chrome browser.

So here, Im trying to help you on how to play Chrome again. Mr H2N and Glasveena helped me a lot to play AL again :)
Im just posting printscreens for you to understand well :) Visuals are better than reading.

Steps:

shortcut *If you are nerd enough: Computer>Local Disk C (or any other drive) > Program Files > Google > Chrome > Application > old_chrome

------

1. Where did you download your Google Chrome? Is it on drive c? or drive d? In my pc, I downloaded it in drive C. If you do, just follow these steps, or if it's in other drive just find it and proceed to step 3.
Follow this one.

31281

2.

31282

3.

31283

4.

31284

5.

31285

6.

31286

- After opening "old_chrome" or "old_chrome.exe" , open Arcane Legends app.

- There would be loading but it should snap :) Something like this:

Uh-oh! Chrome failed to start our game. Press this button to see the updated news on this issue!

- Now follow these steps by sts support :

http://support.spacetimestudios.com/customer/portal/articles/963855-%22chrome-failed-to-start-our-game%22

or

http://support.spacetimestudios.com/customer/portal/articles/967157-how-to-resolve-most-errors-with-spacetime-games-on-google-chrome

(first link worked for me)

*If you dont want to open that link, just type about:flag in search bar click activate in gpu , relaunch chrome, open again gpu - click default then relaunch again. Open AL. It should work now.

7. Voila!

31287

*The new update of Chrome is the cause why AL in chrome is not working. The update is automatic , so we don't know when it updates. So in order for us to use that old_chrome exe and not updating it , open chrome://plugins/ then disable Google update.

Hope it works :)

credits to mr H2N and Glasveena

*Post here if it works or not. We can help you.

Edit -

NB: If you don't find the old_chrome.exe , just uninstall chrome and download this version :

The problem doesn't seem be with just STS Chrome Native Client games. Someone posted in chat that it was happening with other non-STS Chrome Native Client games as well. See http://www.spacetimestudios.com/showthread.php?98923-AL-not-working-on-Chrome-%28&p=1108383#post1108383

SOLUTION FOR ALL PEOPLE WITH THE GOOGLE CHROME AUTO-UPDATE PROBLEM

First, thanks to Greencrow for this thread.
It took me a while but now it works like before the update.

After installing the old Chrome Version (26.0.1410.3_chrome_installer) i had the problem that it gets instantly updated by Google Updater.
I had no old_chrome(.exe) in the folder so i decided to uninstall & reinstall my Chrome.

This is how i did it.

1) Uninstall Google Chrome & restart your computer
2) Download an old Google Chrome standalone Version (http://tinyurl.com/p4dnvxx)
3) Shut down your internet connection and install the Google Chrome standalone Version
4) Press [WINDOWS-KEY]+[R] and type in msconfig -> Startup -> Disable GoogleUpdater.exe
5) Vista/7: Press [WINDOWS-KEY]+[R] again and type in taskschd.msc -> delete all Google Chrome Tasks
5.1) XP: Go to Control Panel -> got to Schedule Task -> delete all Google Chrome Tasks
6) Where did you install Google Chrome? (Mine is in C: Programs -> Google)
6.1) Go to the Update folder and delete GoogleUpdate(.exe) IF you want you can do the difficult way...however, it is not necessary (Wowsome link: http://tinyurl.com/p3xldjf) You have to do this because the GoogleUpdate(.exe) can check for an update EVEN when you disabled it in the Startup (Point 4)!!!
6) Restart your internet connection and open Google Chrome
7) As soon as Google Chrome starts type about: plugins in the search bar - search for "Google Update" and deactivate it
8) Open AL - you'll get the information "Uh-oh! Chrome failed to start our game. Press this button to see the updated news on this issue!"

Hi chourika :) First, this is not the support crew. Im just a regular player like you lol. Im just sharing out what we did when we got problems in chrome. And that guide I made really works- for me, glasveena, the stoic and idk else.

If it seems not working out. Try e-mailing support@spacetimestudios.com

or PM some Mods here ( red, green names )

That's all I can do bro atm. If someone could help, it would really be great. :)

-------------

By the way, after installing .. Did you continue after the 6th step? Did you see the "uh-oh ... bla bla " statement? If so then you're maybe in the right track. Read and analyze the steps , especially the last ones :)

Hi guys,

There is an alternative way to play AL on Chrome. Please note that Chrome portable will not affect your current Chrome browser (you do not need to remove it).

Step 1: Search "sourceforge chrome" on google search engine

Step 2: Click the link with title "Google Chrome Portable - SourceForge"

Step 3: Find and click "Additional Versions"

Step 4: Find and download GoogleChromePortableBeta_27.0.1453.65_online.paf.e xe on your desktop

Step 5: Double click .exe file and install

Step 6: Find GoogleChromePortable folder

Step 7: Click GoogleChromePortable.exe

Step 8: Go to Chrome store and get Arcane Legends application

Didn't work :[, To even install google chrome, it says it requires google installe, if i delete it it wont install it, tried old_chrome, portable chrome, firefox and IE are way to slow ping is so high.

Only way i can play is by making a new profile on my computer, and installing chrome there but as soon as i close that window and reopen it its gone.

Hi, for those installing older chrome but still got auto updated, just wondering if there is another setting on the update.
try checking Control Panel. Find "Administrative Tools" and then "Services".
Find "google update service".
Just now I found two google update services and one of them was automatic. right click on it and click properties. I changed it to manual.
If yours is also auto, you can try to change to manual or disable that (but i won't recommend disable).

Try reinstalling the older chrome, but don't run chrome right away. check that google update service first.
I did not uninstall my chrome, so i do not know if you can actually install chrome without immediately running chrome after that..

*I am no IT expert, just looking around the folders in program files and a bit of google search.
Hope we can quickly play like usual on the newest chrome version.

Addition to the Guide a Quick Fix:

1. Download the latest CCleaner ( http://filehippo.com ) (this application is Awesome! 2 thumbs up!)
2. Install and Run Application to Clean cache and Registry (the app can be used entirely for your computer maintenance. it will always help you clean you PC)
3. Start Menu > type in search > Google Chrome (you will see it show up then) > right click Google Chrome > click Properties > click Open File Location
4. Once the File Folder Appears (you will see Old Chrome) > right click > click run as Administrator > (on Google Chrome browser) go to your STS account to log in..
5. Copy Old Chrome icon and paste in your Desktop (Always open the old Chrome for AL (Bookmark it)
6. Enjoy

Note: Tip Bookmark your Arcane Legends Game so its one click away! Hope this Helps! ^_^

OK, here goes. I'm not sure it will help everyone having an issue playing AL in chrome.

*Windows 7 is my OS

1. Right Click on desktop
2. Screen Resolution
3. >Advanced Settings
4. >Monitor Tab
5. Check the screen refresh rate. Mine used to be 25 Hz Deinterlaced and was consuming 95+% of CPU whenever AL was running
6. Change it to 50-60Hz.

This solved my problem, give it a try. If it still doesn't work, try tweaking your graphics card settings with regards to Chrome.
