i unfriended everyone below level 27 because my character is level 31 and I can't play pvp or pve (what does that mean anyways?) with them. i thought it was great...

It does appear there is a bug with nightly rewards issuing XP currently with XP disabled. Until the issue is addressed early next week, you may wish to be careful with your nightly rewards collection...
