IMHO it's pretty clear this was designed to be a gold sink.
That is, rich players will spend a lot of gold (say 40m if they keep it, or someone else 100m if they buy), and only earn one pet, which, even if it's amazing, won't help them become more rich, at least not more than Sammy and arcane ring already do.
So, please everyone, stop complaining that S&S are for rich players only. It was meant to be this way, from the very beginning.

Purpose of LB is quite simple. Its for STS to make profits. Why do you think they kept arcane rarity pet as a prize inspite of so many rant threads. People wont go the distance if vanities were kept as prize. They invested huge amounts of RL money for that pet. Some sold and made a profit and rest hatched..Quote:

The lb was created to generate revenue for STS. There is no other reason. Energy kits are worth 5 plat a piece. That's a good deal of plat to be able to reach the top 10 of the lb. A good gold sink must also be something that is optional. Not a requirement to play the game, otherwise you affect poor players as well (e.g. pots are a very poor gold sink)
It's also a very interesting generalization you're making that the winners were poor. Not true at all necessarily.
