It's a gamble...and although I don't think they should have gambling in a game that's already addicting enough...it's their decision. Adding an addicting thing like gambling to an addicting game is just asking for trouble since people have no self control. It's like the casino. The "real money" is out of sight and you're given chips, or in this case, platinum. It's very easy to blow through platinum because although it's worth real money, it's not money in hand.
However, you knew the risks before hand. It took me about 400 plat to get the flamebrands.
Havent tried lol ;)
Ive spent over 800 plat on weapon packs never get lucky. It sucks yes but was my choice too buy them when I knew it was only a chance not a guarantee.
i got it on the first try ..
ON MY POOPING ALT FML
I tried once for moon gem then I didn't get I was like $&%#^@
STS is really taking advantage of the 17+ thing
I'm not against the whole "gambling for items" situation, but what does grind my gears is that you don't even know what chance you have at getting the rare items. Smart move for them i guess, because if people find out it's 1%, most would not even bother to try.
I'm going to quote Airrie in this thread. He said it pretty well:

In an effort to prevent this from going in the wrong direction, allow me to clarify with some simple points.
If you buy a random pack, you're always rewarded. It may or may not be your favorite item, but the outcome is always positive.
Actual gambling, like at a casino, runs the risk of an absolute negative. There is no guarantee of any positive outcome and the odds are either entirely for you, or against you at either a gain or absolute loss.
Think of it like buying a booster pack of cards from your favorite card game or putting a quarter in a machine that gives you a toy at random. Chance.
You guys are wise beyond your years!
Well put.
Lol DL is just gonna become a bigger plat sucker the PL or SL I just hope they get enough sales from it so the can tone it back in PL ;D
Yugioh cards, why did I spend so much money on them?!
But anyway, I tried twice and that was it :)
Got it on my sixth try. Booyah XD
Gonna become or already is? This pack is only 5 plat... And if players are spending 800 plat (which in DL RL currency is NOT cheap) are still not getting it, it is a gamble. No disrespect to Airrie, he's a cool as heck mod, but booster packs didn't cost this much before getting, using Pokemon as an ex., a cool AF holographic card. I remember forking over $10 of booster packs back in the day for a holo dragonite but still getting a cool holo raichu and zapdos instead. IMO, they need to raise the % of the desired item. DL plat is significantly more expensive than what we're used to from Pl/SL.
I'm sticking to the drops from 3D missions and I'll be milking the 2x energy regen weekend for what it's worth.
Time X effort > real life money.
I too set my mind to this from the start. Haven't bought plat yet, but it would be nice though. lol I really like what you can get with it. I also like that my DL experience hasn't been tainted by the power of plat. I just capped two days ago :] told ya'll I'd take my time.
Dam yugi what and Pokemon who.. I know garabage pale kids and the lil pink muscle men that came in a trash can container...
That post makes sense but you know, when you buy sports cards or toys from a machine, you can actually TRADE them or SELL them if you already have a double or if you simply don't want or need them.
In Dark Legends, you are stuck with items you don't need, and the only other option apart from letting them rot in your inventory is trashing them for 25 gold.
So basically, items that you get from the packs and already have or don't need have absolutely no value.
THAT, is a real problem.
I actually don't mind the price nor the gamble. The thing that bugs me is the level lock. Why level lock platinum items? Some money savers would rather spend it later in the game when the level cap stops raising. Would be nice if they added an upgrade option...
I wasted 35 plat trying to get it, but at least 30 of the plat were free from winning the twitter contest this week! That being said, it wasn't a total loss, because I did actually get a pink beast gem that was a good overall upgrade for my stats! Woot!
It would be "funny" to see stores pull this kind of stuff.
I can imagine... Going to the store, handing the store clerk $60 for the new Max Payne, and in return, getting Sniper Elite v2 instead. You try again, and get Diablo 3 instead.
Of course, they would give you a warning beforehand that they are doing this kind of deal and that there is no option to purchase Max Payne straightforward. No harm, right?
Just a "funny" thought. :D
I know. I should of rather put, "It would be funny if stores did this with video games." That was my meaning. :)
Ahh, and you were being literal, too. Carry on then!
I think there should a counter on the fails. If you don't get the premium item, it increments. Once you get it, it resets to zero. The devs can then decide (and tell us) that we'll get the item if the counter reaches X, where X is the amount of plat they think it is worth to buy upfront divided by the cost of the pack.So then you are gambling to get it for less, but you know you will get it after enough tries and there is a maximum amount it will come to.
It would reduce the load on support, too.
Isn't that a win-win?
I still have my garbage pale kids cards and the M.U.S.C.L.E. men too! LOL! My wife thinks I am crazy and a hoarder.Quote:
