Different Build types - Uncovered

Hi All

I've started looking into different build types away from the standard pure build and tbh am totally confused with all the various different builds, their names and what they mean. So i'm going to attempt to create a thread, with all of your help, to de-mystify the different builds.

Please could you post any build types you can think of, with a brief summary and I'll collate them on the 1st & 2nd posts.

I'm a novice at all of this stuff and all credit and thanks must go to the contributing posters for all the help and assistance they have given.

The Basics
NB. Feel free to skip to Post #2 if you understand the basics of classes and stat point allocation

There are three classes in Pocket Legends:- Warrior (Bear), Mage (Elf) & Archer (Bird). Each have their own specific traits, strengths and weaknesses.

There are also three specific STATS:- Strength (STR), Dexterity (DEX) & Intelligence (INT).

Check out these three images of newly built characters for each class. See how their distribution of STATS (STR, INT & DEX) are already starting to create the initial build for these classes.

Bear - STR=7, INT=1 & DEX=2

These STATS each bring certain benefits to the BUILD of your character, as you add more points to them. For example, notice at this early stage Health/Mana Pool totals are slightly different. The Warrior starts life with a Health Pool of 604, which is 4 above this class' base of 600.

For each level you progress you are given an extra 5 STAT Points to allocate in any/each of these three STATS.

When you get to the next level the 'Update Stats' button (shown below) will flash and you will be taken to your stats window.

In this window you will see there are no available points but there will be 5 available for use each time you level up.

If you want to change your stats, you can reallocate them all but it currently costs 2 Platinum. Use the 'clr' button next to each stat to reduce it down to base level and then just reallocate your points. When you press submit you get a confirmation window.

So to summarise, the BUILD is the combination of the class you pick, the STATS you allocate as the character progresses (or levels) & the weapons/gear/rings you equip. You can also customise things further using the various SKILLS available to each class, but this isn't currently covered here.

Build Groups & Individual Build Types

Build Groups

When you initially create your character you have a whole host of options for different types of build. Where you place your available stats determines the type of build you are going for. The main groups are Pure, Hybrid & Dual builds.

Pure Builds are just that. The stats points available are always spent in the one stat.

Hybrid Builds are a mixture of points allocated across two or even three stats.

Dual Builds spend the stats fairly evenly across two stats in order to be able to equip two different sets of weapons. For example a Dual Strength/Intelligence Mage can wear both STR and INT gear. There are links at the bottom of this post for further reading on Dual Builds.

Further build groups include Balanced Build, Experimental Builds, etc. These aren't covered in this thread currently.

Build Types

Pure

INT(Pure) - All available attribute points put into INT and NONE in other attributes. Pure INT on ENCHANTRESS' are best at doing their main role and purpose (e.g. healing, dropping nukes). Heal and other Spells will be most powerful compared to other mix of stats on ENCHANTRESS.

Works best for mages since it is their primary stat. Also allows them to do massive spell damage, although sacrificing survivability.

DEX(Pure) - All available attribute points put into DEX and NONE in other attributes. Pure DEX on AVIAN ARCHERS are best for dealing significant damage to a single target, namely bosses in PVE. As the same for other pure classes, a pure DEX bird will be able to help best at destroying bosses when in a party.

Works best for avians because it is their primary stat. Allows for the highest single target damage output due to high crit, high base damage and DPS, not to mention increasing the damage of their skills. Again, sacrificing survivability.

STR(Pure) - All available attribute points put into STR and NONE in other attributes. Pure STR on URSAN WARRIORS are best for being able to tank as much damage as possible from enemies, as evidenced by their large amounts of dodge, health, h/s, and armor.

Works best for bears because it is their primary stat. Gives the best ability to take and tank damage. Allows for the highest Health, HS, Dodge, and Armour. Although this works best for bears, it doesn't make you the best bear either. There's a difference between being able to take damage and tanking for the team, which is Hit %.

Pally (Paladin) - A Mage with all of her aoe damage with the armor to cast it where it counts and survive the aggro. Usually some mix of int and str (to wear the gear and preserve skill power) although they are a little weaker than their pure int counterparts, they do not have to worry about getting one shotted. Very effective as a last resort team revive.

Multiple builds possible. 1. dual spec'd str/int , 2. Dual spec'd str/dex , 3. More str oriented. This allows a Mage to have a lot more survivability by being able to use str armors. You sacrifice your damage dealing for survivability.

Warbird - An AVIAN with mixed stats in STR and DEX, allowing for the character to equip gear in both categories. A balance of survivability and damage dealing makes this build fairly powerful. The only downsides would be decreased range when holding a melee STR item, and weaker skill damage, as there are less attribute points in DEX.

Multiple builds possible. 1. Dual spec'd str/dex , 2. More str oriented. This allows for a bird to be able to survive longer by being able to wear str armors. This also still allows a bird to use their long range skills even while using a melee weapon. Sacrifice damage dealing for survivability.

Tank - General term used to describe a character able to take massive amounts of damage without dying. Builds considered "tanks" are: Warbirds, paladins, and full STR warriors.

Multiple builds possible. 1. Dual spec'd str/dex , 2. Hybrid str/dex but str oriented , 3. Pure str. This is a tricky one. Tanks are generally known to being able to take damage for the group, but here in PL, tanking requires more than being able to take damage for the group, but also being able to use your bear skills to control aggro/mobs. That being said, a good PL tank would need Hit % - which can be obtained from more dex.

Bow Bear - Warriors dual spec'd with STR and DEX to enable them to wield archer equipment. Generally they lose out their tanking abilities in favor of a larger range for a 'normal' attack and more overall damage output.

You might also want to classify how the builds work between classes, maybe post #2.

Post 1 used for stat allocations, pures hybrids and duals
Post 2 used for class types, pally, dexchantress, Mage, warbird, archer, intbird, tank bear, bowbear, int bear

Also, there are variations like Beserker bears, shiv users, wand/bracer vs 2h weapons. Etc

Red, aren't those terms in one of those acronym guides in your compilation? :)

mmm. I don't know if anyone ever did some real testing into it but there would also be "balanced build". Allocating skill points keeping in line with the start game ratios.

EDIT: yep - there are some there but some aren't..... I'll continue making a list and then let the thread develop or not as per the responses I get. Hopefully some player might find it useful. Although, the more I look into this the more complex it gets.... You PVP experts must be right mathematicians.... LOL

Your INT definition is the same as DEX btw.

Ah, misunderstood. Thought you just wanted to ask these questions for personal info, it would help a lot :)

My take on the builds:

Pure INT - All points into the INT attribute. Works best for mages since it is their primary stat. Also allows them to do massive spell damage, although sacrificing survivability.

A question to clarify before I start getting things wrong.

Is a full INT bear still a pure build or would that be a hybrid? IE if someone spent all stats points on INT for a bear would it be a pure INT build still?

If anyone has any other build types, or images I could use to show the balance of stats on their particular builds, it would be greatly appreciated.

pure= all stat points on that one stat.

hybrid: enough stats to wear gear, rest into preferred stat/others
