Maybe you didn't have enough gold to pay the auction fees.

You can still get lvl 10 items but it's a lot harder. Best bet is to make another twink and keep it at lvl 10.

If I'm not mistaken the level cap of 66 won't be out till next year. It usually takes about 6 months for them to change it. Samhayne mentioned that Mt. Fang which is the new map for the level cap...
