Sadly this is probably the direction they take. Mobile games nowadays are all doing it and I wouldnt be surprised if STS does it as well. Though I do have hope for it being good, just the main thing...

The issue is that PL gets grindy real quick and the graphics arent that good which turns away lots of players. Ive only ever seen a few new players stay for late game.

True, but game likely wont get popular still due to outdated graphics and game design. The game was obviously made for old tech so there isnt a lot of detail in the maps or models.
