Question 2.66% dodge vs 40 armor

    Hi everyone,

I was wondering if people had the numbers for damage mitigation on armor? I was wondering if say 2.66% dodge was better for your effective hit points or was 40 armor better?

2.66% Dodge - do you dodge all attacks by 2.66% more or just basic attacks? For example do you also get a chance to dodge special attacks or windup attacks from bosses or from normal monsters?

How does armor help reduce damage? Does anyone have the formula on how that works - is it the same for all classes or different for warriors?

Thanks so much for all your help in advance.

    As a warrior, I'd choose 40 armor.

As I understand it - Dodge (%) is a chance to avoid all attacks. Opponents should have a "hidden" hit rate (%) too. So, dodge should eventually reduce the opponent's hit rate.

Damage reduction (%) = Modifier * Armor. Earlier the modifier was 0.00047.... Now it may be different.

Wow - thanks so much for your answer

If armor is 0.00047 then you get 0.0188 mitigation from the 40 armor (or 1.88% more ehp) - that is less than the 2.66% dodge that you would get since the dodge would give you 2.66% more ehp?

Also - are some boss attacks undodgeable? If so then I could see how armor would be super important then.

Armor provides a steady damage reduction, while dodge provides a chance to avoid the attack.

Let's say a mob has 70% hit rate, so 7% dodge reduces it to 63%, and an additional 2% dodge reduces it to 61%. With the extra 2% dodge, you will be hit 61 times out of 100 attacks as opposed to 63 times out of 100 attacks.
An elite boss may have 103% hit rate, so 7% dodge reduces it to 96%, and an additional 2% dodge reduces it to 94%. With the extra 2% dodge, you will be hit 94 times out of 100 attacks as opposed to 96 times out of 100 attacks.

The numbers are just for the purpose of explanation. The actual scenario may be quite different.

[EDIT] We can see now that if (boss hit rate - your dodge) is >= 100%, then the attacks would be un-dodge-able.

I did not know that bosses could get hit% above 100% - if that is the case, then unless you hit a threshold for dodge then some of it would indeed be useless.

Do you know which boss's attacks are above 100% (or regular enemies for that matter)?

Is there a chart or a list that I can access for reference?

Thanks again for your super detailed answers.

Welcome . I do not know of any reference. It is just my guess that some of the elite bosses could have >100% hit.

I personally tend not to pay much attention to dodge for my warrior. On the other hand, there are good PvE builds that are centered around it, i.e. Rally Cry.

Het Ackk, I'll help u with that, As I'm a Semi-Pro warrior in AL, I better recommend the 40 armor, as a warrior character,
we must be pure tank(heavy characters) who have high health & armor & medium damage & critical hit
If u choose the dodging feature, boss will kill u in no time,
but if u choose armor feature, it will technically reduce the incoming damage
    So better choose armor option

hmm In my opinion 40 armor is more helpful for a warrior as a tanks main role is being a shield ( meat shield ) and protect all the other mages and rogues
