Default ingame lies.. are more decimals at work?

Today I unfortunately sold my mythic ring to get a myth helm after finding that they would be upgraded.
Ofc I went to check my stats and see how they were after I lost so much hp :C

I noticed how close I was to max damage a mage could have atm so I went into auc to see the difference with mythic ring

Rounding, it's a thing they do in math.

There are three ways to round; round up, round down, and round to the nearest.

If one of them is using one (lets say round down) and the other is using a different method (say round to the nearest) then you could get what you are seeing. Inconsistent, yes; wrong, no.

You could also get that if they are both set to always round up or round to the nearest. Let's say that it's 361.049 and the ring is adding 0.449. That would show as 361.1 and 0.5, but when you add them you would get 361.498, which would round up to 361.5.

The math is still correct and the actual formula's that use those stats wouldn't be doing any rounding (until the end) so it all still works.

So not a lie, at best it is more like a mathematical typo.

o-o I was thinking that items (should) have pre rounded/fixed stats that are consistent to one decimal place. I thought the reason this was thrown off was cuz of bonus damage. I understood what you meant the first time when you mentioned rounding, when I said it was still wrong I meant as in idc about the math, it is a typo so fix it kinda thing..

In general, games like these only round when displaying to a player. With lots of things adding % the real numbers are probably multiple decimal places long, at least that's how the company I programmed for did everything. Nothing rounded unless it was going to a user, which means displayed or the final damage calculation (since you can't take less than 1 damage).

Well anyways I feel like this isnt going to be fixed since its part of the mechanics of the game, this will forever be a nuance in the game to annoy me. Or add a software that just does simple equations for the difference in the current and final stats off items.
