Abaddon's arcane ability

Sorry if this is repeated, but couldn't really find the answer and it's hard to search on my phone. -_-

So. What does abaddon's arcane ability do?
I don't get how the 'curse' works...

Could someone please explain?

Abaddon's arcane ability is described as :

Does damage and has a chance to apply shadow damage over time that reduces hit chance to enemies within range.

The shadow damage takes the graphical form of swirling smoke around any enemy that has had the "curse" applied to them. The shadow damage does not happen every time to me it looks like it has a 40-50% chance of being applied to enemies. At level 30 the initial ability does around 80-90 damage as an area of effect, and if the damage over time is applied it does 4 ticks at around 40 damage. So in total the max damage I've seen from Abaddon's ability is around 240 damage (4 ticks @ 40 dmg = 160 dmg plus 80 initial = 240 dmg).

Anything for my friends! He's actually a pretty decent pet if the arcane ability hits and the damage over time is applied, I've used him multiple times to help people out getting haunted titles. I do imagine he will be very useful for watchers tomb and other crypt runs, whether for experience or for timed runs. Cheers!
