Somewhat, yes.

If you don't have any form gems yet, you want to get one. Form gems are special level 31 green/rare gems that have a special dodge capability. I don't end game pvp, but from what I've heard they help.

form gems (green one with dodge) help against brim combo. brim combo = charged fatal burst + charged brimstone. Pay attention to passive ability also like damage and hp + def. You can find some more tips in pvp section.
