crafting?

I know this is a dumb question but i can't figure how to add gems to my equipment

You cant. Gems are just crafting components.

Keep/sell/liquidate/craft. It's up to you.

Go check out some of the blacksmiths in towns and look at what recipes your gems are needed for. Then make a decision on what you would like to do with them. Some of them can be worth a little gold if you decide not to craft
