    Default Trading / Gifting Platinum?

I searched and saw some older posts on this but I wanted to make sure I'm up to date before I make my platinum purchase.

I am about to purchase platinum to unlock everything in the game for my account. I have a friend who isn't going to spend a dime and is going to stop playing (a.k.a. cheapo, we all have those friends). I want to purchase a more expensive platinum pack and give him some so he can continue playing.

Is this still not possible or is it now possible? The only reason I ask is I have seen people spamming to sell platinum, so maybe that has changed.

    Thanks!

It is not possible. Plat is cash. If it changed hands in game, the IRS would want to tax it.

Then that means when you purchase gold from a gold farmer (world of warcraft) and he trades you the gold in the game, that the IRS gets some tax for that. Doubtful....

    Must be some other reasons.

    eh.. wha..?? huh? what's a non-sequitor?

Plat is real cash. Gold is pretend money. Big diff.

And yes, my tax accountant wife has had to deal with Second Life holdings as inheritence on a tax return. I know whereof I speak.

Crazy....so I guess the Diamonds you buy for Runes of Magic get taxes by the IRS. Then in Runes of Magic you can trade those diamonds on their auction house. So every time they get traded, taxed again. I wonder how that game is profitable.

And Gold in World of Warcraft is certainly cash. I have bought and sold it on more than one occasion. It was tax free for me.

Play can NOT be traded. Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger.

It can/should be taxed....but I doubt that people involved with money farming in games file sales taxes on what they sell ^^ however, they do pay income taxes on it hopefully

It also wouldn't be taxed in a game trade since it was already purchased. In the game it isn't being traded for "cash".

    1. You sell me a yoda action figure for cash (taxable)
    2. I take yoda and I trade it to billy for princess leia (not taxable)

pcm2a, your arguments don't make sence. Just because you can do something doesnt make it legal. You can buy a whole lot of naughty stuff if u know where to look, doesn't make it right.

Selling/Giving plat would be terrible for the game. If u want to buy plat for a friend buy them an iTunes gift card and then they can buy their own.

    They have an android phone.

The point is that the Game Maker wouldn't be taxed a second time because they do not profit from it. When I take yoda that you sold me and I trade it, uncle sam doesn't want any extra tax money from you (the original seller).
