I think the numbers correspond to the arrangement of the skills like a keypad. So clicking 1 would activate your bottom left skill and 3 would be your bottom right. Well I think it used to be like this back when I used chrome.

Yea it is. Unfortunately, there is no way to change it to the way you want it, so its easier to put your combo as 1, 2, 3, etc and click on the rest with the rest.
Its also easier if you have numlock, as normally the numbers are right on top of WASD -.-

I suggest mapping them in combo/number order so that you can slam your face on the keyboard, violently thrash your face on top of the surface, and still manage to score kills every.... 2 occurrences of minor brain damage.

I use keypad only in sl because it has only 4 skills
Or you could make a little script [AutoIt/AutoHotkey or any programming language you like] so when you'll press key 9 it will send numpad 0 [or any other number] to the PL Window
