Totem or rifle?
Been using a 41 exp rifle of assault, it's decent dmg. Better than a flare and only 6.5 less dmg than a perfect orbital. Been eyeing the magma totems because the proc looks nice. Haven't looted one yet and wondering if anyone can shed some light on the effectiveness of the staff. I'm traditionally a staff user but the auto target gun isn't bad. Does that vacuum proc suck in a good way?

I would prefer staff because it is dps weapon (with same skill dmg) and it hits multiple targets on the way, use gun with single targets like PvP and bosses. Idk about the proc yet but it sounds pretty cool, and the staff looks cool too.
Btw, an advice for you if you use gun is use brutality rifles. 3 or 4 damage more (with assault, while you already had over 450 dmg) for 100 hp (with brutality) isnt a good trade off
The rifle is WAY cheaper than the totem. Any average sorc would prefer the rifle.
Expedition rifle of assault level 41 has close to 20 damage over the totem of brutality level 41. Dps isn't useful on a Mage and I always go with whichever has higher damage unless the proc is much better. Expedition rifle has an amazing proc and I would suggest it over the totem based on the damage output alone.

I always favored a gun back then when the Mythic Gun was still legit. Nowadays I use the staff. If a new Mythic Gun ever came out, i'd be on it in a second.
I notice that Gun Procs more often then a staff, might be just me.
Thank you all for input. The assault gun is it for now. Not spending millions on a pink staff. Maybe I'll pu a brut if the price looks right.

IMO the assault rifle isn't as good as the brutality one. Not much damage increase, but 100 HP is reduced so...
I love staffs in 5v5 clashes, always have since last season. My entire playing style is built around it! So I'd tend to go with staff. Especially since its proc is so BA!
I need to test the totem in PvP. But I had some surprising results using it in PvE. A few things I noticed:
1) There seems to be a new kind of stun when it procs, and it works against bosses. I tried it in normal Tindirin Wilds and Elite Forest. When it procs a red circle and then the mob/boss will kind of spin their head like they are dizzy. Then the red circle explodes and stuff in range gets sucked togeter.
2) The explosion doesn't seem to do a significant amount of damage.
3) The suck in effect is kind of like Whim's pull but not as good. The range doesn't seem to be very far but I didn't really test it that much so I am not sure what the full range is.
But given #1, the totem seems kind of appealing to me. Because it works on bosses and probably on other stuff that fireball won't stun. While you can't always rely on something random like this it happens enough to be useful. Also if this works the same way in PvP, this maybe a new way to stun lock someone. The totem stun lasts about 2-3 seconds, so if you follow up with fireball, then panic then you could stun lock someone for a while. I need to test it in PvP to see how it functions. I also may record a video to give people an idea of how it functions.

Yea, the proc is legit.
The stun works on bosses, I was able to stun the green troll guardian in the wilds, the troll abomination, alargan, as well as rendtail himself with this staff, so I know it works really well for pve. It really just depends on whether or not you'd be willing to give up the lightning proc or the ability to attack ranged and kite with the gun - but imo, I have both in order to switch up if i need to.
