Default Damage passive not as what I expected

So I tried testing Pet damage passive and this is what I found that was most saddening/disturbing to me. So Pet passive damage (probably all passive damage percent modifiers) will increase your base DPS and Damage......but it does not increase your skill damage. I tested this by getting neked and equipping Flap jack (+15% damage, +8 health regen, +8 mana regen......notice there is no primary stat buff on this pet). When I summon Flap jack he increases my DPS and damage.....but does nothing to my skill damage. I tested with other pets as well.....same result. To me skill damage is probably more important than auto attack damage, especially in PVP.

Having a high base damage and dps is nice for auto attacks I guess.

It was only a display error before. We can accurately test buffs/debuffs now.

Yeah you right. But I guess I assumed that if a pet increases your damage/dps your skill damage should increase as well. I guess that is not the case when it comes to passive damage percent increase.

is this true? if so then i'm shocked. that would mean that in elites damage % is absolutely useless since the mobs health is so high and a minimum amount of damage comes from auto attacking.

Maybe it's just another display glitch?

if it turns out that neither smoke or pet damage % increases skill damage then i may quit this game. they're using nightshade or whatever and his 17% damage bonus to get people to spend plat to compete for a leaderboard spot when in reality the only time it will help is for autoattacks. LMAO.

Hey Rare. I think you are on to something here. I am currently testing it.....It seems like it might be a display bug. The pets that show me as having higher dps/damage but lower skill damage (abaddon) is actually having higher skill damage and autoattack damage compared to Prance which shows clearly that my skill damage is higher but dps/damage is lower.

So I think there is a display glitch on skill damage with pet passive damage (and probably other damage passive as well). Meaning even though passive damage increases your base dps/damage as well as your skill damage..... it doesn't show on the skill damage display.

I'm still not completely positive on this. Further testing by me and others might clear this up.

It certainly wasn't that way before. Grim increased AS damage by a truckload, as did veil.

Edit: but that might have been his passive armor reduction kicking in. i'll try with ethyl.

Edit v2: mmm i dunno. i can't really tell. 10-15% is a pretty small modifier. someone with damage mods is going to have to take a look and do averages.

I suspect when they fixed the display screen nobody thought of also fixing the skill damage screen along with it. I'm pretty sure skill damage is determined by actual damage.

I tested Whim vs Samael. Samael +35 INT +10% Damage & Whim +35 INT +15% damage. Skill damage screen shows both being the same. However lightning does more damage with Whim. So I think its a display glitch, but since the numbers are random, its hard to say so some developer should confirm this because I didn't do a lot of tests.

You're not going to be able to tell with only a 5% difference.

Optimal test would be no pet vs a pet that has 10-15% damage and no stat buffs.

Pretty sure he means floating damage numbers, Sam.

Looking at it, the skill damage display (if you go into view the skill and look at the min and max damage for that skill) wasn't updated to reflect the new roll up of all the goodies. Action item to fix the skill damage display up in a future version. Thanks again for the head's up.

Yes you can tell 5% damage. You hit the boss with lightning like 10 times with each pet. Then you add up all the numbers and divide by 10 for each pet then this gives you the average. Then you compare the 2 numbers. You can try it yourself.

You're still not going to be able to get a reliably accurate result because the range on skill impact damage is large. You could get 9 low range hits and 1 high range hit using your 15% damage pet, then 9 high range hits and 1 low range hit using your 10%. Would skew averages. So no, you're definitely not going to be able to tell unless you repeat that same test like... 100 times to rule out outlier results.

    Basic statistics.

Anyway, Sam is fixing display issue.

This has always been an issue. A known issue, in fact.

Remember when the mythic glaive was released? It has lower damage than the arcane maul, but the skills said they do more with glaive.

And then sts stated that it was just an issue in skill screen, and having higher damage indeed makes your skills do more damage.

It's been known that that screen is broken. Known by both players and sts.
Only those who risk going past the edge will find out how far they can go.

This may be of use to anyone wanting to do actual testing.

I'm not too sure if this is entirely correct. This fourm discussion is specifically about damage passive not showing up on skill damage display. What you are referring to is glaive showing more skill damage than the maul which is an actual reality. There is no display glitch in that. Glaive displays lower raw base damage on main stat page but displays higher skill damage in the skill damage display and this translates into reality when testing on mobs. I've tested both glaive and maul and the glaive does more skill damage than the maul. As to why this is.....I am not sure...perhaps its related to the fact that glaive is a higher level weapon. Perhaps STG used the display glitch as an explanation for the discrepancy between the glaive and maul in the past according to you. (I searched for many threads about glaive vs maul discussion but I could not find a developer quoting that this was do to display glitch.....maybe i need to look harder but i spent an hour looking and gave up)

I've even tested magmatic claymore vs maul......and magmatic claymore shows higher skill damage....this as well translates into reality....claymore lvl 41 assault or will does more skill damage than the maul.

If someone else has more input or has done some testing between glaive and maul please enlighten us further.
