    Default Mob Scaling

    So I had an experience yesterday with a low level character(lvl 14) joining me for some KT4 runs. I am very use to this place and rarely die even with some significant pulls. The first run I died twice. I changed my lep to my wilds amulet for the next runs and didn't die but it took me longer to complete than I do solo with my lep and it was harder. I'm not sure exactly how they were harder but it was noticeable for me.

    Does anyone know what factors scale mobs? We know mobs scale up based on the number of players in a map but does the level of that character affect the way they scale? Does the gear toons are wearing affect the way they scale?

    I would love some dev input here. I am very interested to know what factors are taken into consideration for mob scaling. There was a thread a couple of weeks ago about scaling of mobs in relation to gear. Does this happen? Do low level players scale it up as much as a lvl 41?

    I'm far too lazy to do any testing but I know some community members love doing this stuff. This is an area that really could use some research . . . or dev answers

    As far as i know they scale to the level of the highest player and the number of players.
    In your case two players and level 41 or cap of the map.

    I'm curious if the level of the players in the map have any bearing on how it scaled. Does a level 14 have the same scaling affect a level 41 does?

    If you are in a party with a level 14 person and you are 41 level,then,mobs will be scaled at 41 level.(Supposing that there are two people who are 41 level.In your case it would be harder because the other person was 14 level). Sorry for my English..

    well, its pretty simple, it scales to 41 for both players, but since the lvl 14 cant do as much damage, you're finding it harder to kill the mobs since its expecting both players to do equal damage.

    Looks like most people don't get the question.
    As a lv41, is it harder to run a map with lv41 afk-ing than with an lv14 afk-ing? How much harder? How much harder than solo?

    Having an afk player will make it twice harder than solo run.

    well technically, the level of the 2nd toon doesnt matter as the tomb will scale to the highest (41), so if either a 41 or 14 sits afk, it will be the same difficulty for the running toon.

    That was a differeent topic. ^^

    The theory is as stated above, where the map scales to the highest person. However, this is not actually the case.

    When you run cross levels with a large level gap between players, the mobs frequently appear to go far beyond the highest player's level and turn pseudo-elite. This makes it totally insane for the 41's who are trying to carry the low-level through. It's how the game discourages inter-level play. I don't have hard numbers on it, because it's such a well known phenomenon and has been around since the game began. This is also why many guilds restrict their levels, because otherwise they need to explain over and over to the junior members WHY the end gamers will not run with them.

    Hmmm, running maps at 41 with an afk high lvl, med lvl, or low lvl has always felt the same to me. :/
    And, of course, having an afk player of any lvl greatly increases difficulty compared to being solo.
    Only those who risk going past the edge will find out how far they can go.

    The mobs do scale up differently when you have a lower level toon in the map. Mobs get harder to kill.

    Since it was mentioned, didn't Samhayne say he will tell null_void about Serancha's theory (re: Relationship of Armor Value to mob scaling)?

    Party size also plays a factor in changing the difficulty of the enemies. Not only do the mobs scale to the highest level, but they are also buffed to coincide with the extra firepower if there are more players with you. Soloing is actually easier than PuGing oftentimes.

    So they are scaled to your level (41), and are buffed as if there is another lvl 41 with you, despite the fact that he is lvl 14. Serancha is correct in stating that this is to discourage inter-level cooperation.

    I also find it very strange that maps seem to be easier in groups of 3 compared to groups of 4. The mobs must scale less when going from 2 players to 3 players than it does for any other party combination. It is a real weird dynamic and I know there are a lot of factors to consider.

    I'm sure everyone is busy with this event but I'd love to see some people do testing(As mentioned previously I am far too lazy to do this myself). It would be greatly beneficial to know exactly how and what makes mobs scale. I know the devs mentioned they would look into scaling of mobs and I hope that we may even get some answers from them. I'm sure they are also busy with this event but it would be great to know.

    Well just a quick note as I performed a test even if I didn't want to.
    My 41 warrior was fighting Helena a few times.
    PUG 41 41 40 39: Helena's hit gets my health to 6%, and I wear Lepre.
    Guild party: 41 41 41 41. Helena kills me every time, with Lepre off.

    Possible explanations (sorted from likely to unlikely):
    - Other people's level has effect
    - Other people's gear has effect
    - Enemy is scaled easier for PUG than party
    - Enemy is spawned with different damage every time
    - any other you can come up with
