Changes to the Chat Filter

Hey all,

I've noticed a lot of threads popping up after the recent changes to the chat filter. Let me help explain what's going on there.

The list of unapproved words hasn't actually changed. However, anything on the "bad words" list used to trigger a silent mute, meaning that you would not receive a message when your chat was flagged. We decided that this could be confusing to players, so we switched it over to a regular mute. This is what you guys are seeing now. Now, when you say a word that triggers the chat filter you will receive a message explaining that you have been muted. The other change here is that multiple mutes will trigger a 24 hour ban.

What we are realizing with this new change is that there might be some words on our profanity list that could stand to come off, have separate meanings in other languages, etc. Based on your feedback, we are reviewing the list and will clean it up as much as possible. HOWEVER. Profanity still isn't something we want running rampant in Arcane Legends and we will continue to do what we can to keep it under control. Please remember that "No Profanity" is one of the first rules on our list and we're sticking to that. So, you will see the chat filter lighten up over the coming days, but do understand that if you continue to trigger it you will still receive a temporary ban. There are so many creative words you can use other than profanity. For reference, here are a few of my favorites:

"Barnicles!" "Banana Shenanigans!" "Dang Rabbit!" "Oh Snap!" "Crikey!" "Avada Kedavra!" "Jabberwockies!" "Holy Macaroni!" "Arrrrggghhhh!" "Shamalama!"

I avoid chatting in my own language (Dutch) as much as possible. Many innocent words mean something totally nasty in English.

Oh nuuu, Im scared to speak how many mutes resorts in a temporary ban ? Theres a glitch with this app on many android devices where we are unable too see what we are typing, we kinder have to guess we typed everything correctly and hit send, could you possibly look into this, ive had this problem for months, and after mentioning to other people seems like a common problem, it also results of recent in alot of mutes, but whats frustrating is we have no idea what we were muted for, unknown if its a typo or a word classed as profanity, very confusing.

It is 3 mutes = 24 hour ban. I'll definitely pass that bug along to QA and see if they can reproduce it. It would also help to know what kind of device you are using.

U can fix it by putting your finger at the top of the page and holding it there. Like you would if you were going to copy and paste. The words come back after that.

You kidding me?! Excuse me for saying, but there is no stress relief in saying "jabberwockies" also,3 mutes are Way too Low, i get muted atleast 2 Times everyday without swearing...
Just Cuz of mistypes and words in my language.

U can fix it by putting your finger at the top of the page and holding it there. Like you would if you were going to copy and paste. The words come back after that.

I got muted three times in a row .. I said some expression another word for "donkey" and right when I got unmuted
I said a letter F and a K which IDIDNT know is added to filters.. So I got muted again. And then after I got unmuted I said
"Poop" in a diff language , a spelling that wasn't in filter either ... But now it is "poop I got muted again " and so I got muted again but I'm guessing the 24 hour banned wasn't applied then ? I wasn't banned luckily..

Doesn't work on my device.
However, opening the keyboard's settings will fix it on my device.

(Just pointing out an alternative method, in case Jade's device is like mine.)


On topic: you mean when we say "girlfriend," instead of not showing the word to everyone else, it gets us muted?
I prefer the old system then...
Heck, if we used that entirely for actual profanity, then we could play without hassling mutes AND the other players would still not see the words. And all the immature kids would be too dumb to realize we can't see what they're saying.


Also, I'll have you know Disney owns the rights to the Jabberwocky's name, image, and any variations of such, and they will NOT tolerate you using it in such a slanderous meaning, Remiem! :P
